Groups encouraged to attend community forum

Members of COmVOiceS have expressed their support for a Ministerial visit to a Wellington-based Tangata Whenua, community and voluntary sector forum, and are encouraging people to attend the meeting.

Hon Luamanuvao Winnie Laban will attend the monthly Association of Non-Governmental Organisations of Aotearoa (ANGOA) Roundtable meeting on Wednesday 12 July to meet with a wide range of Tangata Whenua, community and voluntary organisations and discuss issues that affect their work.

“The ANGOA Roundtables are a vital tool for ensuring strong connections within the community and voluntary sector so we are pleased that the Minister is willing to engage in a two-way conversation about the state of the partnership between Government and the community and voluntary sector, and the ways it might be made even more productive to support New Zealand communities,” says Claire-Louise McCurdy, Chairperson of ANGOA.

Dave Henderson, National Coordinator of ANGOA says that Tangata Whenua, community and voluntary sector groups deliver a wide range of essential services to New Zealand society and it is important that they have opportunities like this to work with government in positive ways as there is a strong level of interdependency between government and community organisations.

“It is important that the good work of Tangata Whenua, community and voluntary sector organisations is recognised and valued at both local and central government level. Government depends on community-based organisations to deliver many vital services, and in turn they work with philanthropic donors and government to try and ensure services are adequately and sustainably funded," says Robyn Scott, executive director of Philanthropy New Zealand.

The ANGOA Roundtable is designed to provide an open environment for Tangata Whenua, community and voluntary sector organisations to meet and share information about their work.  The Rountable will be held on Wednesday 12 July between 10.00am and midday, at the Council for International Development Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, James Smith Building, corner Manners Street and Cuba Street, Wellington.
