Collaborative projects are key in maximising the resources of voluntary organisations and can be crucial in building capacity. The Federation is involved with a number of key projects within the sector.     ComVoices is an independent coalition of Tangata Whenua and leading community and voluntary organisations set up to promote and make visible the enormous contribution of the whole voluntary sector to our society. The Federation is the lead host agency for the project.

    This is a joint project by the Federation and the Office of the Community and Voluntary Sector at the Ministry of Social Development. Keeping It Legal  E Ai Ki Te Ture provides a comprehensive overview of the laws and regulation that voluntary organisation need comply with in an easy to follow 4-part resource.

    Back to top Counting for Something: Value Added by Voluntary Agencies (VAVA Project)
     
    Led by the New Zealand Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations, the VAVA project was commissioned to examine the voluntary inputs of voluntary agencies across New Zealand. Such voluntary based agencies are characterised by their use of voluntary donations of time, money and/or goods. The project is structured in three phases: measuring input, output and outcomes of volunary sector organisations to New Zealand society and economy. Phase 1 was completed in September 2004.

    September 2004: The report on phase 1 of the the VAVA project provides an overview of the voluntary inputs of ten major social services organisations over a one year period. It includes detailed presentation of the data, analysis and discussion and the themes arising from this study, and an outline of the methodology and templates used in the research.     The Federation has an interest in promoting and supporting mentoring in the community and voluntary sectors. Mentoring is a generic term to describe a relationship with a trusted advisor to promote on-going learning and provide support for people in their work places.

    December 2005: An excellent resource pack written by Pat Rosier for NZFVWO. Mentoring is a really useful tool is supporting people in arrange of roles in community and voluntary organisations. This resource pack is designed to assist facilitators, trainers and local groups in developing concepts and practices of mentoring in every day situations.

    May 2002:
    Prepared by Kura Geere-Watson for the Federation, this this initial scoping study sought to examine the role of mentoring in the community and voluntary sector. It provides an overview of what mentoring is and how it differs from supervision; how the sector is making use of it, and a collection of case studies.

    This is a joint project between Family and Community Services and the Office of the Community and Voluntary Sector. The Federation is a member of an advisory group to the project. Managing Well lists resources available for community and voluntary organisations and is the first phase of an ongoing project to build capacity in the sector.

    The Federation is a member of of the Association of Non Governmental Organisations of Aotearoa (ANGOA) and work closely with them on wider sector issues.

    Ongoing:
    ANGOA host a monthly open forum for non government organisations in New Zealand, which provides ongoing opportunities for information sharing, identifying key issues and strategising across a number of agencies. For the next roundtable, click on the link above.
       
    Back to top Community Sector Taskforce
     

    The Community Sector Taskforce is an independent body of ten community representatives, established in  2003 to continue the work developed by the joint community sector and government working parties (2000 - 2002) to develop the relationship between government and the sector.  Current projects include the development of a research centre for the sector, building relationships with local government, and convening a national forum for the community and voluntary sector. ANGOA is the "host" agency for Taskforce, managing its accounts and contracts, whilst NZFVWO host the taskforce's webpages.
